Soil Science Construction Supervision (BBB)

Soil Science Construction Supervision (BBB)

At the latest since September 2019, with the entry into force of DIN 19639, soil science construction supervision has become an indispensable state-of-the-art practice for soil protection during construction projects.

Soil protection during construction planning and execution is an issue that is often underestimated. Soil Science Construction Supervision (BBB) fulfills the role of specialist construction supervision and is carried out by personnel with specialized training in soil science, together with the relevant professional qualifications and practical experience.

The tasks involved in soil science construction supervision are highly diverse. The primary objective is to ensure the careful and sustainable handling of the protected resource soil while enabling a cost-efficient and results-oriented construction process. Soil damage, such as that caused by soil relocation, vehicle traffic, deposits or improper storage, is common in many construction projects and can be prevented through specialist soil science expertise. Potential cost traps, such as compensation payments to landowners resulting from soil damage or costly and time-consuming remediation and recultivation measures, can thus be avoided.

In accordance with DIN 19639, BBB must be incorporated into the approval planning prior to the construction phase in order to ensure compliance with legal and normative requirements.
